Angul, June 3: A 20-year-old elephant died of electrocution at Dangapal village under Chhendipada forest area in Angul district.
According to reports, the incident occurred after the pachyderm came in contact with solar-powered fencing that was installed to protect local communities from elephant incursions.
Following the incident, forest department officials reached the spot and confirmed that the elephant died due to exposure to solar electricity.
The situation is alarming as a herd of 15 to 16 elephants has been roaming in the area for the past four days, yet efforts to drive them away have proven unsuccessful.
