Kalahandi, Dec 10: In a human- animal conflict, a forest ranger was trampled to death by a female elephant on Sunday. The on-duty ranger had gone to the neighbouring villages near Narla forest range after the villagers complained of the jumbo menace. 

While the ranger was warding off the pachyderm, it attacked back, critically injuring him. 

Locals rushed him to District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Bhawanipatna, where died. 

The identity of the ranger is yet to be ascertained. 

The death of the ranger has doubled the fears in the minds of the local who were previously terrorised by the elephant's destruction.
