Elections 2024: 94.48 Lakh To Cast Votes In Third Phase Polls In Odisha On May 25

Bhubaneswar May 23: As Odisha is gearing  up for the third phase of election, the State Chief Electoral officer sheds light on the details of polling or voters at a press conference in the capital city on Thursday. Polling for Six Lok Sabha seats and 42 assembly segments is scheduled to be held on 25th of this month.

According to estimates, 94 lakh 48 thousand voters are going to participate in the election, comprising 48.3% male and 45.18% female. Youth percentage will be confined to 21%.

Apart from this, 3,000 people will benefit from the first of its kind 'Vote from Home' initiative by Election Commission of India(ECI) for this year. A sum of 31,000 voters will cast franchise via e-ballot/postal votes in the state.

For the third round of polling, a huge gender disparity can be seen in terms of participating candidates. As many as 64 candidates, comprising 55 males and 9 females are contesting for six Lok Sabha seats of Puri, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Sambalpur. On the other hand, a total of 383 MLA candidates constituting 339 males and 44 females will be contesting from 42 assembly seats in the state.

Tight security measures have been taken into consideration in view of the rise of poll violence in the past two election phases . A total of 121 units of CAPF will be guarding 10,551 polling booths and around 1500 polling booths will be monitored by only Women troops. As many as 70,000 polling staff will be deployed for the election management.
