Odisha government launches bamboo-based entrepreneurship program to empower women under Mission Shakti.
Bhubaneswar, Apr 22: In a groundbreaking initiative, the Odisha government is empowering women under the Mission Shakti programme to become entrepreneurs by producing bamboo-based products.
Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida announced this during a two-day state-level workshop held at the Mission Shakti Bhavan in Bhubaneswar.
The workshop highlighted the growing demand for bamboo products such as T-shirts, tissue paper, plates, tiffin boxes, brushes, spoons, and more. Women participating in the programme are being trained to manufacture these items, which are not only eco-friendly but also highly marketable.
The government aims to create "Lakhpati Didis" — women earning substantial incomes — by providing them with the necessary resources and training.
The initiative also includes planting bamboo trees and simplifying the production process to make it accessible for women across the state.
Deputy CM Parida emphasised the importance of this initiative, stating, "Women can achieve financial independence and contribute to the state's economy through bamboo-based entrepreneurship. This workshop is a step towards realising that vision."
The programme is expected to boost livelihoods and create a sustainable business model for women, aligning with the state's mission to empower women economically and socially.
