East Coast Railway launched DSC Arjun, an AI-powered robotic surveillance platform, to strengthen passenger and station safety. Equipped with facial recognition, crowd analytics, and real-time alerts, the system marks a milestone in smart railway security and enhances RPF’s operational efficiency.

Bhubaneswar, Jul 22: In a significant step towards strengthening railway safety through advanced technology, East Coast Railway has launched an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered robotic surveillance platform named DSC Arjun (Dedicated Security Chassis Advanced Railway Junction Under Network Enabled Surveillance), officials said on Wednesday.

The AI-driven platform was unveiled in the presence of senior railway officials and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel. Designed to enhance passenger safety, station security, and operational efficiency, DSC Arjun integrates cutting-edge technologies including computer vision, machine learning, and Internet of Things (IoT).

Officials said DSC Arjun represents the next phase of technological innovation in railway safety, following earlier initiatives such as the deployment of humanoid robot ASC Arjun at Visakhapatnam station in January 2026. The new system builds on the legacy of “Captain Arjun,” introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 to assist frontline railway staff.

Equipped with advanced features like AI-based facial recognition, real-time crowd analytics, passenger head count, unattended baggage detection, suspicious activity monitoring, public address announcements, live video streaming, and instant alert generation, DSC Arjun is capable of 24x7 surveillance. Authorities believe these capabilities will significantly improve situational awareness and enable timely decision-making.

The robotic platform can be deployed across railway platforms, concourses, ticket counters, waiting halls, circulating areas, parking zones, and parcel offices. It is expected to aid crime prevention, crowd management during peak hours, protection of railway assets, and effective response to emergencies such as fire or medical crises.

Railway officials described DSC Arjun as a milestone in building a smart, technology-enabled security ecosystem. “Technology is reshaping the future of railway safety. DSC Arjun combines AI with surveillance to create a responsive, passenger-centric security system. It will strengthen public trust and enhance the RPF’s operational efficiency,” said a senior officer.

By integrating AI with professional vigilance, East Coast Railway aims to deliver a safer, smarter, and more resilient travel environment, ensuring secure journeys for millions of passengers while safeguarding critical infrastructure.
