Bhubaneswar, Oct 2: As the city prepares for the grand celebration of Dussehra, the Fire Department on Thursday rolled out extensive safety measures for ‘Ravan Podi’ ( The burning of Ravan's effigy) celebrations and idol immersion events. With thousands expected to gather, officials are leaving no stone unturned to ensure public safety and fire hazard prevention.

NOC Issued for 8 Ravana Dahan Venues
The Fire Department has granted No Objection Certificates (NOC) to eight venues across Bhubaneswar for organizing Ravana Dahan. These include Baramunda, Sundarpada, Naharkanta, Koradakanta, KIIT Road, Khandagiri, Gopalpur, and Bankua. Each committee has been instructed to install barricades at least 100 meters away from the burning site to maintain safe viewing distance for spectators.

Strict Guidelines for Fireworks and Personnel
In accordance with Supreme Court guidelines, committees must procure licensed fireworks from authorized companies. Only trained personnel from these companies are permitted to handle the fireworks, with a maximum of two individuals assigned per site. Fire inspection teams have already surveyed all approved venues to ensure compliance.

Fire Safety Teams and Equipment on Standby
Deputy Fire Officer Narayan Das said that fire engines and equipment will be stationed at each approved location. Firefighters will be deployed as per requirement to respond swiftly to any emergency. Additionally, five locations have been designated for idol immersion, with both permanent and temporary arrangements in place. Life jackets, boats, and fire personnel will be available at all immersion sites.

Preparedness for All Scenarios
The Fire Department has assured full readiness to tackle any situation during the festivities. From fire inspections to on-ground deployment, every precaution is being taken to safeguard lives and property.
