Puri, June 18: In an innovative move to combat rising concerns over dengue and malaria in Puri, authorities have launched a drone-assisted mosquito surveillance and prevention operation across all 32 wards. Ahead of the world-famous Rath Yatra, special drone surveys are actively mapping mosquito breeding zones, especially in stagnant water bodies and areas inaccessible to manual workers.
The campaign involves a three-day surveillance phase using high-resolution imaging, followed by seven to eight days of aerial mosquito oil spraying to curb disease spread. Notably, areas around the sacred Srimandir and the murky stretch of Atharanala and Mousa River, which are known for long-standing water accumulation, are getting targeted attention.
Meanwhile, preparations for the Rath Yatra are in full swing with the construction of the grand chariots entering its final stage. Artisans and sevayats have completed key structural elements, including the Khapuri (dome), Potala (canopy), Kalasa Dangia (pinnacle), and Parabhadi (crown). Intricate carvings and paintings are underway, with 34 chitrakaras embellishing the chariot panels with vivid depictions of divine figures and motifs.
