Jajpur, Jul 26: Six members of a family, were taken ill after consuming food allegedly poisoned by their daughter. The incident was reported from Kanikapada village under Mangalpur police limits in Jajpur district.

According to the family members, they believed that their daughter, who is married now, allegedly conspired to carry out the fatal act.

The matter came to fore after the victims began experiencing symptoms such as dizziness and vomiting after dinner. Following this, they were rushed to the nearby health center. Later, they were shifted to Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital for treatment, where doctors confirmed poisoning.

The hospitalised individuals include Umakant Ojha (70), Shashikala Ojha (65), Subrat Ojha (27), Sasmita Ojha (38), Satyabrata Ojha (20), Ankita Ojha (2.5).

The alleged poisoning follows months of ongoing tension. Six months earlier, the girl, reportedly eloped with a man from the same village, taking gold, cash, a scooter, and other items.

The family opposed the marriage, though some relatives housed the couple temporarily. Tensions grew, culminating in as police complaints were filed at Mangalpur PS just two days before the incident.

Witnesses claim the accused daughter had made death threats against family members and was seen behaving aggressively shortly before the food was cooked.

Sasmita Ojha alleged that the poisoning may have occurred while Shashikala briefly left the kitchen unattended.

However, a case has not been registered as all affected members remain hospitalised. More details are awaited.
