Puri, Jan 20: Dolphin count started in the Chilika Lake in Odisha. The enumeration work has been started jointly by the Chili Development Authority and the Forest Department.
Counting started at 6 am and will continue till noon.
A total of 18 teams, each comprising seven members, have been deployed to count dolphins in the Balugaon and Satapada ranges. Ten teams have been deployed in Balugaon range and eight in Satapada range. OUAT students, environmentalists, forest department staff, CDA staff, boat operators have been involved in the enumeration.

✨Dolphins will be counted through GPS, photography and videography with binoculars. There were 144 dolphins in 2023 and 155 dolphins in 2024 in the Chilika Lake.
Wildlife Institute of India Research scientists have used hydrophone technology to count dolphins in Chilika, the largest brackish water lake, for the first time, said Kashinath Hembram, ACF.
