Jajpur, June 21: The diarrhoea outbreak in Jajpur district is showing signs of improvement due to widespread preventive measures and public awareness campaigns, an official said on Saturday.


The situation has been reined by concerted efforts of field-level teams of the departments of Health and Family Welfare, Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water, Housing and Urban Development, Women and Child Development, and Mission Shakti, he added.


According to sources, the number of new cases has started showing a declining trend in Jajpur district. As many as 43 new patients were admitted to hospitals today, bringing the total number of active cases under treatment to 153. Encouragingly, 144 of these patients are reported to be in stable condition. At least 17 individuals have tested positive for cholera in the district.


Health officials continue to urge residents to drink only purified or boiled water and maintain hygiene.

In Dhenkanal district’s Bhuban area, 15 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours, with 8 cases from Bhuban NAC and 2 patients currently hospitalized. The district administration has stepped up containment efforts in response to the rising case count.


Meanwhile, in Malkangiri, the district administration has gone into action mode to prevent a potential outbreak. Joint teams from the Food Safety Department and the municipality have conducted raids on fast food stalls, hotels, and snack shops in the district headquarters. Water samples have been collected for testing, and Rs15,000 in fines have been imposed on violators. Vendors have been warned against serving stale food and instructed to ensure clean drinking water.


At least 11 people have died from across the state due to diarrhea-related complications, with contaminated water identified as the primary cause. Both central and state health teams are stationed in affected districts to monitor and manage the crisis.
