✨Following the feast, five villagers from Marathapur and 15 from Patashala developed severe symptoms. Subsequently, Surendra Mallick of Marathapur, Sambaru Mallick of Rajanapalli, and Susanta Mallick of Patashala also succumbed to the illness.
Health officials suspect contamination during the feast may have triggered the outbreak, though investigations are underway to determine whether the disease is spreading through infection in the wider community.
Currently, over 20 patients are undergoing treatment at Berhampur Medical College, battling for survival. The rising death toll and growing number of cases have created panic across the region.
Taking the situation seriously, a district‑level health team has reached the affected villages to monitor conditions, conduct medical checks, and raise awareness.
Local health workers are assisting in surveillance, while efforts are being made to control the spread and provide immediate medical support.
Authorities are focusing on preventive measures, including
safe drinking water, hygiene awareness, and medical intervention, to contain
the outbreak. Villagers are being urged to remain cautious and report symptoms
promptly.
