Banki, Jun 25: A sudden outbreak of Diarrhoea in Gholpur village, Banki, has sparked concerns among residents and health authorities. After Jajpur and Bhadrak districts witnessed similar outbreaks, Banki is now facing a surge in cases, with the total number of affected individuals reaching 35.
The first cases appeared on June 13, affecting 11 individuals, followed by 15 more on June 14. By Saturday, the number rose to 29, with many receiving treatment at nearby Athagarh hospital and later discharged.
However, seven new patients emerged late Saturday night and were admitted to Subarnapur hospital for medical care. While most have recovered and returned home, seven individuals remain under observation.
In response, local health officials from the Subarnapur Primary Health Centre rushed to the village, providing emergency medical aid, distributing anti-diarrheal medicines, and supplying chlorine tablets to prevent further infections.
Open wells and tube wells have undergone disinfection using bleaching agents, and water samples have been sent for laboratory testing to determine contamination sources.
Authorities have urged villagers to drink only boiled water and maintain hygiene to curb the spread of the disease. While health officials claim the situation is under control, rising patient numbers have left villagers anxious. Efforts are ongoing to monitor conditions and prevent further outbreaks.
Health experts emphasise that poor sanitation and contaminated water are likely responsible for the outbreak. The district administration has assured necessary interventions to ensure safe drinking water and prevent the further spread of disease.
