Jajpur, June 11: A sudden outbreak of diarrhea has claimed four lives in Jajpur district while the number of infected individuals has crossed 500, health officials said on Wednesday.


According to sources, patients have been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Jajpur and various health centers here, while more than 80 patients with severe cases are being shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.


The situation has worsened over the past two days, with over 200 patients admitted to Dharmasala Medical alone. Many affected individuals from different regions of Dharmasala are receiving medical care, and two critically ill patients have been shifted to SCB Hospital in Cuttack for further treatment.

While some patients have recovered, authorities fear the number of cases may continue to rise, sources said. In response, the health department is arranging additional hospital beds and has assured full medical support for all affected individuals.


Teams have been dispatched to various regions to assess the situation and monitor the spread of the infection.


Officials are also investigating the source of the outbreak, with sanitation efforts and water quality tests underway in affected areas to contain the spread, sources said.
