Sambalpur, May 25: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan visited Sambalpur Zoo early Sunday morning and announced plans to develop it as Odisha’s second Nandankanan with support from state and central governments.
Pradhan visited the Zoo this morning, inspected its facilities and discussed future development plans. He announced that efforts would be made to transform the zoo into Odisha’s second Nandankanan, with collaborative support from the central and state governments.
During his visit, Pradhan interacted with locals, and discussed concerns related to the zoo’s infrastructure, wildlife expansion, and tourism amenities.
Officials from the forest department and district administration joined discussions on introducing new animal species and improving zoo conditions.
Addressing the media, Pradhan confirmed that a comprehensive plan would be prepared to revamp the zoo, focusing on expansion and enhanced visitor experiences. He emphasised the importance of making nature more appealing to the younger generation while ensuring sustainable growth.
Additionally, Pradhan highlighted the ‘A Tree For Mother’ campaign launched on the occasion of World Environment Day at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s behest. He urged citizens to participate in the initiative, aiming to plant over one lakh trees within three months to make Sambalpur a greener city.
Several social organisations, intellectuals, women’s groups, and students are expected to join this massive afforestation drive, turning it into a public movement for environmental preservation.
