Bhubaneswar, Aug 19: Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving four multi-tracking railway projects worth Rs9,450 crore, three of which will directly benefit Odisha.
Calling it “a revolutionary step for Odisha’s progress and prosperity,” Pradhan said the expansion of the Kharagpur–Bhadrak, Bhadrak–Haridaspur, and Cuttack–Paradip rail lines would strengthen the state’s railway infrastructure and improve logistics efficiency.
In a post on X, Pradhan wrote in Odia: “Thanks to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for this developmental decision under the PM Gati Shakti scheme. These projects will give new momentum to Odisha’s tourism and industrial sectors, benefiting many people while creating extensive employment opportunities.”

Notably, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired
by PM Narendra Modi, cleared four projects of the Ministry of Railways with a
combined outlay of Rs9,450 crore. Apart from the three projects in Odisha, the
fourth project involves the Gummidipundi–Gudur 3rd and 4th line (90 km) in
Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Officials said the projects, covering eight districts across West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, will expand the Indian Railways network by about 410 km. The multi-tracking works are expected to enhance connectivity to nearly 6,448 villages with a population of around 60 lakh, the officials added.
