Bhubaneswar, Jul 12: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has strongly criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his alleged derogatory remarks about President Droupadi Murmu and his misleading comments regarding the Rath Yatra.
Pradhan demanded that Rahul Gandhi offer a public apology, especially since he made the statements while visiting Odisha — the birthplace of President Murmu.
Pradhan mocked Gandhi’s ignorance and accused him of disrespecting the dignity of the President, who hails from a tribal background.
“Rahul Gandhi should have apologized to Odisha’s daughter Droupadi Murmu. Even now, there are 24 hours left. I hope his party leadership advises him to correct his mistake,” Pradhan said.

He further stated, “The Congress party has lost its public base in India. Their feudal mindset does not resonate with the poor, marginalized, and Dalit communities. Rahul Gandhi’s comments reflect frustration and ignorance.”
Pradhan also criticized Gandhi’s past statements, including his infamous claim about extracting gold from potatoes, and his lack of understanding of Odisha’s cultural symbols like the Khandua Pata (traditional handloom). “This is not just ignorance — it’s arrogance. Such behaviour is typical of those who believe their family alone owns the country,” he added.
The Union Minister concluded by saying that he personally apologizes on behalf of his party to the people of Odisha for the insult to President Murmu. He emphasized that such remarks are unacceptable and reflect a disconnect between the Congress leadership and the values of modern India.
