Ganjam, Aug 10: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, on the second day of his visit to Ganjam district, inaugurated a landmark desalination project at the IREL plant in Matikhal, Chhatrapur.
The facility, developed at a cost of ₹130 crore through a joint initiative between IREL and the Odisha government, marks the state’s first venture into converting seawater into potable fresh water.
The project is expected to significantly benefit residents of Ganjam by providing access to clean drinking water sourced from the sea.

✨Later in the day, the Union Minister is scheduled to attend the Garib Kalyan Vikas Sammavesh in Chhatrapur, where he will address the public on various welfare and development initiatives.
Pradhan will also visit prominent religious sites, including Maa Bhagabati temple in Banpur and Maa Ugratara temple in Bhushandpur, as part of his itinerary.
