Sambalpur, Dec 23: Union Education Minister
and Sambalpur MP, Dharmendra Pradhan participated in the closing ceremony of
the 5th “Jatiya Sambalpuri Sammelan” (National Sambalpuri Conference) organised
by the “Paschimanchal Ekata Manch” here in Odisha on Tuesday. The event, held at Guru Shri Satyanarayan
Sambalpuri Dera near Jail Chhak, showcased the rich tapestry of Sambalpuri
language, literature, culture, music, and dance.

Speaking at the event, Minister Pradhan praised the Manch’s tireless efforts in fostering unity and solidarity across western Odisha. He described the Sammelan as a significant initiative in giving the Sambalpuri language and art a distinct identity at the national level, calling it a welcome step in strengthening cultural recognition and pride.
Highlighting the contributions of eminent personalities, Pradhan recalled the literary legacy of poet Gangadhar Meher, the linguistic work of Guru Shri Satyanarayan Bahidar, and the writings of Padma Shri Haldhar Nag, which have elevated Sambalpuri literature to new heights. He also praised Padma Shri Krutartha Acharya for enriching the weaving tradition and making Sambalpuri textiles globally renowned.

The Minister underscored the cultural pride of western Odisha, citing landmarks such as the Hirakud Dam, Sambalpuri temples, and the Bhimmandali rock art, which dates back nearly 10,000 years and is currently being studied by the Archaeological Survey of India. He expressed confidence that the National Sambalpuri Conference would play a leading role in advancing these cultural treasures.
Sambalpur MLA Jay Narayan Mishra, Rairakhol MLA Prasanna Acharya, former Rengali MLA Nauri Naik, senior officials, police officers, and community members were present on the occasion.
