Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: Union Education Minister and Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday welcomed the presentation of the Rs3.10 lakh crore Odisha Budget 2026–27 in the State Assembly by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, describing it as a “welfare-oriented and visionary budget for a Viksit Odisha.”
Pradhan expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi
and CM Majhi, noting that the budget reflects the aspirations of farmers,
women, youth, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and marginalized communities.
He emphasized that the budget allocations will strengthen education, skill
development, healthcare, agriculture, tourism, and infrastructure, ensuring
inclusive growth from villages to cities.
The budget includes several landmark initiatives:
establishment of new universities in Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, and
Jharsuguda; two government engineering colleges in Paradip and Balangir; a
veterinary college at Chipilima; and two new campuses of the World Skill Centre
in Sambalpur and Berhampur. Plans to redevelop SCB, VIMSAR, and MKCG medical
colleges, along with pharma and medtech parks in Nayagarh and Khordha, were
also announced.

Pradhan highlighted proposals for economic clusters in
Bargarh–Jharsuguda–Sambalpur, Berhampur–Chhatrapur–Gopalpur, and
Jeypore-Koraput–Sunabeda, alongside infrastructure upgrades such as the Burla
Ring Road and development of Jamadarpali airstrip into an airport. He welcomed
the Rs1,000 crore allocation for a Shri Jagannath Museum and Library, tourism
initiatives including Hirakud integrated tourism, Mahanadi riverfront
development, Odisha Home Stay Establishment Scheme, and a new Tourism Land Bank
Yojana.

The budget also introduced welfare schemes such as Mukhya
Mantri Kanya Sumangal Yojana, Dalakhai Yojana for displacement
issues, CM Sampad Yojana for mining-affected areas, Udyami Yojana
for nano entrepreneurs, and incentives for kendu leaf pluckers.
Pradhan noted
that the Odisha AI Mission and other initiatives will contribute to the vision
of Viksit Odisha 2036 and Viksit Bharat 2047.
