Weather Forecast / Depression Likely to Bring Heavy Rain, Gusty Winds In These Eight Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar, Sep 25: A depression over south Chhattisgarh and adjoining south interior Odisha is likely to move further north-northwestwards while maintaining its intensity for the next 12 hours before weakening into a well-marked low-pressure area during the subsequent 12 hours, the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.

The depression moved north-northwestwards at a speed of 15 kmph during the past six hours and lay centred at 8.30 am on Friday over south Chhattisgarh and adjoining south interior Odisha.

Orange Warning For Eight Districts
The IMD has issued an orange warning for Saturday, valid until 8.30 am on September 26.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places in Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada and Nabarangpur districts, the weather agency informed.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 50-60 kmph are also very likely at one or two places in these eight districts.

Yellow Warning For 15 Districts
A yellow warning has been issued for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts, valid until 8:30 am on September 26.

Heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places in these districts. The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places in the same districts.

Rainfall Warning For September 26-27
For the 24-hour period from 8:30 am on September 26 to 8:30 am on September 27, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for Sundaragada, Jharsuguda and Baragada districts.

Heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places in these three districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 40-50 kmph are also very likely at one or two places during the period.

Heavy Rainfall Recorded In Several Districts
The southwest monsoon remained vigorous over Odisha, the IMD said.

Moderate rainfall occurred at most places across the state, while heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded at a few places in several districts, including Kalahandi, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kendrapada, Malkangiri, Bhadrak, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Jajpur, Baleshwar, Nayagada, Nuapada, Jagatsinghpur, Anugola, Ganjam, Kataka, Khordha, Rayagada, Dhenkanal, Puri and Baragada districts.

Extremely heavy rainfall was recorded at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Koraput and Kendrapara districts, according to the weather agency.

Fishermen Advised Not To Venture Into Sea
The IMD has warned of squally weather along and off the Odisha coast for the next 12 hours, with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph and occasionally gusting to 60 kmph. Sea conditions are likely to remain rough to very rough and occasionally high along and off the Odisha coast during the period.

The weather office has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast for the next 12 hours.

Bhubaneswar To Remain Generally Cloudy
For Bhubaneswar and adjoining areas, the IMD forecast a generally cloudy sky with intermittent rain during the next 24 hours.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to remain around 30°C and 25°C, respectively.
