Deogarh, Mar 18: In a shocking incident, a woman died and her husband and two sons were injured critically in a tusker attack at Tileipasi village under the Riamala forest area in Deogarh district in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Puja Mahar. According to the information, a tusker entered Ritu Mahar's house razing a wall with its foot while she and her family members were fast asleep in the night.

Alarmed by the jumbo's entry, all family members tried to run for safety. However, the tusker chased them and attacked them with its trunk. As Ritu fell to the ground, the tusker trampled her under his foot. Ritu reportedly died on the spot and others sustained critical injuries.

Tension ran high following the incident. Villagers staged a protest in the village, demanding adequate compensation for the deceased's family.

Informed, forest officials and police reached the spot and started an investigation.
