Kataka/Dhenkanal, Aug 1: A decomposed body was recovered from the Kathajodi River in Kataka on Saturday, while a separate case in Dhenkanal district saw the identification of a previously unclaimed body found floating in floodwaters earlier this week.

Decomposed Body Found In Kathajodi River
Fire Services personnel recovered a decomposed body from the Kathajodi River near Balisahi in Nuapada area of Kataka.

Officials said the identity of the deceased could not be immediately established. Preliminary suspicion suggests that the body may have been carried downstream by floodwaters.

After recovering the body, Fire Services personnel handed it over to the police for further investigation and identification.

Family Identifies Unclaimed Body In Dhenkanal

In a separate development, family members identified a decomposed body recovered from flooded farmland at Kunua village under Rasol police station limits in Hindol block of Dhenkanal district on July 27.

The deceased has been identified as Sanatan Nayak (29) from Barasingha village under Balimi police station limits. His parents, Manju Nayak and Lingaraj Nayak, approached Rasol police station after learning about the recovery through media reports.

According to the family, Sanatan had been missing for nearly 15 days, and extensive searches had failed to trace him. They informed the police that he had a mental health condition.

Police Await Post-Mortem Report
As the body remained unidentified at the time of recovery, police had conducted the post-mortem examination and carried out the last rites as per procedure.

Preliminary police investigation indicates that the youth may have died due to a lightning strike. However, officials said the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.
