Bhubaneswar, Jun 26: A cyclonic circulation has indeed formed over the northwestern Bay of Bengal, and it's currently active near the coasts of northern Odisha and West Bengal, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the weather agency, this system is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area within the next 12 hours, potentially bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall to several districts.
The Met officials has issued orange and yellow alerts for multiple regions, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30–40 km/h.
Coastal and interior districts of Odisha—such as Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Ganjam, and Gajapati—are expected to be most affected, reports added.
This development is also expected to revive the monsoon, which had seen a lull in recent days.
Authorities are closely monitoring the system, though it is not expected to intensify into a cyclone at this stage.
