Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: A cyclonic storm brewing over the Bay of Bengal has intensified, with its center currently located approximately 970 kilometers southeast of Gopalpur, Odisha, and 890 kilometers from Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The system, which originated as a low-pressure area, has developed into a depression and is gaining strength with increasing rotational wind speeds and cloud cover, informed the weather department.
The IMD forecasts that it will intensify into a deep depression by Sunday and further into Cyclone Montha by October 27 morning.
The cyclone is expected to move northwestward and make landfall near Kakinada on October 28 as a severe cyclonic storm.
Wind speeds are projected to reach 90–100 kmph, gusting up to 110 kmph.
Following this, heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal from October 25 to 29.

Disaster management teams are on high alert, and fishermen have been advised to return to shore.
