Cyclone Dana's Landfall Process Begins Over Odisha Coast

The landfall process of the severe cyclonic storm Dana began over the coastal areas of Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday night.

Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: The landfall process of the severe cyclonic storm Dana began over the coastal areas of Odisha in the intervening nights of October 24 and 25 and is expected to continue till the morning hours of Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said late on Thursday night.

"Landfall process has commenced and the forward sector of the wall cloud region is entering into land.  The landfall process would continue till today, the 25th October morning. The system is under continuous surveillance of the Doppler Weather Radar at Paradip," IMD posted on X.

The IMD forecast that the cyclone is likely to make landfall between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port late Thursday night (October 24, 2024) or early Friday morning (October 25, 2024).

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday night said that all the necessary preparations to achieve zero casualties and tackle the impact of the impending severe cyclonic storm 'Dana' have been completed. 

CM Majhi held discussions with the Collectors of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Khordha and Jajpur over the progress regarding preparations for cyclone 'Dana' which is fast approaching the Odisha coast.

Earlier on Thursday evening Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Odisha Chief Majhi over telephone to receive update on the State’s preparedness for the cyclone Dana.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister expressed satisfaction with Odisha’s readiness to tackle the cyclone.
