The swelling Bahuda river has severely impacted connectivity along the Brahmapur-Visakhapatnam National Highway. Vehicular movement between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh remained suspended as floodwaters inundated key stretches of the highway.

Thousands of trucks were seen stranded along the route from the Andhra Pradesh border to Brahmapur, resulting in significant disruption to the movement of goods and passengers.

The flooding has also affected road communication between Brahmapur and Rayagada, with several routes rendered impassable due to waterlogging and infrastructure damage.

Roads Washed Away

In Patrapur block, the main road connecting Kelua and Padadigi was washed away by the strong water flow. Officials said a breach measuring over 10 feet had developed, completely disrupting traffic movement in the area.

Adding to concerns, soil erosion was reported near the Maa Balakumari Gate after heavy runoff from the surrounding hills. Large portions of earth reportedly collapsed near the gateway, raising fears of further damage if rainfall persists.

Brahmapalli area in Brahmapur was among the worst-affected localities, remaining completely waterlogged.

A pregnant woman stranded in floodwaters at Dhudua village was safely rescued by personnel of the Jagannathprasad Fire Service Centre. Battling strong currents and flooded surroundings, firefighters reached the woman and evacuated her to safety.

The prompt rescue operation drew appreciation from local residents, who praised the firefighters for their swift response and dedication.

As floodwater continues to affect several parts of Ganjam district, authorities are monitoring vulnerable areas and intensifying rescue and relief measures to minimise risks to residents.
