Cuttack to Demolish 221 Unsafe Buildings After HC Order

Cuttack, Aug 21: In a decisive move to address public safety concerns, the Cuttack district administration has identified 221 buildings as structurally unsafe and slated them for phased demolition. Out of these, 8 buildings were under the control of various government authorities, while 2 buildings were privately owned.
The initiative follows a directive from the Orissa High Court, which was apprised of the deteriorating condition of these structures by the administration.
Among the unsafe buildings, eight are under various government departments, while two are privately owned. Notably, 72 quarters in the New LIC Colony near Badambadi have been declared completely unsafe.
Notices have been issued to all responsible parties, instructing them to vacate and demolish the structures by the stipulated deadline.

The administration has set a timeline for evacuation and demolition, with action expected to begin by Sunday. The High Court has also mandated the submission of a detailed affidavit and progress report by September 18, warning of criminal proceedings against those who fail to comply.
Despite warnings, several families continue to reside in these dangerous buildings, prompting concerns from local residents about potential disasters affecting nearby roads, schools, and public spaces. The administration has assured swift action to prevent any mishaps.

safety and accountability.
