Cuttack, June 16: Cantonment Police arrested a man for stabbing a woman here in Odisha and produced before the court on Monday in an alleged case of one-sided love affair.

The accused has been identified as Saroj Tripathy.

As per the information, the accused had been harboring one-sided romantic feelings for the woman. He attacked the woman near Gadachandi Temple in Cuttack yesterday when the victim was returning to her maternal home after observing the Raja festival. She was reportedly stabbed, sustaining critical injuries.

The woman is currently undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. Providing an update, Cuttack DCP Rishikesh Khilari confirmed the arrest and said the investigation is underway in this connection.

This incident has raised concerns about women’s safety in public spaces, especially during festive times when movement increases. Police have assured swift legal action and enhanced patrolling in sensitive zones, sources said.
