Cuttack, Jul 27: The floodwater inflow at Mundali barrage in Cuttack has surged past 5,00,000 cusecs, following a major release from the Hirakud Dam.
As of this evening, approximately 5,04,000 cusecs of water are being discharged through Mundali.
The Hirakud Dam authorities have opened 20 sluice gates to manage rising reservoir levels amid heavy rainfall in upper catchment areas of Chhattisgarh and western Odisha.
On the other hand, the India Meteorological Department has issued orange and yellow alerts for multiple districts, forecasting continued rainfall over the next 48 hours.
Water Resources Department officials have confirmed that real-time monitoring is underway at Naraj flood control centre near Cuttack.
While officials maintain there is no immediate flood threat, precautionary measures are being ramped up in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Puri, and surrounding areas.
Emergency response teams from ODRAF, NDRF, and local fire services have been deployed to vulnerable low-lying zones.
Agricultural fields in coastal pockets are beginning to show signs of inundation, and rural road connectivity has been disrupted in some areas.
