Cuttack, July 13: Thousands of devotees, including Kanwariyas, are converging at Baba Dhabaleswar Temple, a famous Lord Shiva temple located on an island in the Mahanadi River near Cuttack, to perform their age-old ritual of offering water to the Shiva Lingam tomorrow, on the occasion of first Monday of Shravan.

The offering of “manasika jal bhar” (water offering ritual) will begin during Brahma Muhurta, the most sacred window of early dawn, on Monday when devotees open their sling bags near the concrete bridge—just before the temple’s entrance—to pour only the vowed holy water over the Shiva Lingam of Baba Dhabaleswar.

The devotion witnessed on Shravan Mondays at Dhabaleswar carries immense cultural and spiritual significance. The Kanwariya tradition not only strengthens community bonds but also reflects Odisha's rich heritage of devotional practices linked to Lord Shiva worship.

As devotees chant- “Bol Bom, Har Har Bom” and walk barefoot toward the sanctum, the night transforms into a spectacle of faith and resilience, exemplifying the fervor of Shravan month observed across India.

Given the expected crowds, security arrangements have been stepped up. Odisha police have deployed three platoons of personnel and stationed ten senior officers to manage crowd control and ensure pilgrim safety throughout the night.

The temple priest committee (Pujaka Samiti) has also coordinated with local administration to oversee temple services, sanitation, and emergency medical preparedness.
