Cuttack, May 13: An investigation report on the tragic bridge collapse at Khannagar, Cuttack, has been submitted to the District Collector, following a probe led by the Sub-Collector of Cuttack Sadar.
The report, which has now been forwarded to the state government, highlights a mechanical failure in the crane as the primary cause of the accident.
The incident, which occurred on May 3, saw a concrete beam and crane collapse, claiming the lives of three workers, while two others sustained injuries.
According to the findings, the boom or truss of the crane broke, resulting in the disaster. Authorities have issued notices to the crane manufacturing company and the bridge construction firm, demanding explanations.
The investigation panel, formed under the Cuttack Sadar Sub-Collector, recorded statements from the crane operator and contractors to assess the circumstances leading to the collapse.
Officials assured that construction work would resume only after state government approval, ensuring no future accidents through expert monitoring.
The six-lane road expansion project along the Kathajodi River has now come under strict scrutiny. The state government’s high-level inquiry committee is expected to submit its final report by May 18, adding further recommendations for improving construction safety standards.
