Baramba (Cuttack), Apr 12: In a dramatic turn of events in Odisha, Baramba police intercepted a pickup truck carrying nine cows in a suffocating condition near the Sankhameri River embankment.
The incident unfolded when the smugglers, upon spotting the police vehicle, abandoned the truck and fled through the river, leaving the animals behind.
The police, acting on a tip-off, had been monitoring the area due to reports of illegal cattle transportation. With main roads under strict surveillance, the smugglers attempted to use the river embankment as an alternative route.
However, their plans were thwarted when the police apprehended the vehicle. The cows, found in a critical state, were immediately rescued and transported to safety. The vehicle was seized and brought to the Baramba police station for further investigation.
Authorities have launched a manhunt to locate the driver and accomplice, who managed to escape. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of illegal cattle smuggling in the region and the need for stricter enforcement measures.
