Cuttack, Apr 2: The Badambadi Police in Cuttack, Odisha, have apprehended an impostor posing as a police inspector, accused of deceiving job seekers by promising them employment in the Home Guard sector in exchange for money.
The accused, identified as Gundicha Dalai, duped a hopeful youth of ₹1.5 lakh, initially taking ₹10,000 to gain the victim's trust.
The impostor further solidified his deceit by wearing a police uniform adorned with three stars, misleading individuals into believing he held an inspector rank.
According to Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo, the suspect operated by crafting meticulous schemes whenever new recruitment notifications were released.
Upon investigation, the police recovered incriminating items, including a laptop, five mobile phones, fake police identification, a police uniform with badges, nameplates, rubber stamps, a logo, and a check.
The Cuttack DCP emphasised the need for public vigilance and encouraged reporting suspicious activities to avoid such fraud.
This case underscores the importance of thorough verification and awareness to combat fraudulent practices. The Cuttack police's swift action serves as a reminder of the law's role in protecting citizens against deceitful tactics.
