Kendrapara, Jun 15: Under the CSIR-Smart Village Mission, Kusunpur Village in Kendrapara District, Odisha, witnessed a transformative initiative with the Terafil Water Filter Distribution and Skill Development Programme.
Organized jointly by CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT), Bhubaneswar, and CSIR-Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, the programme aimed to ensure safe drinking water access and empower villagers through skill development.
The event also featured a tree plantation drive, symbolizing sustainable growth alongside scientific intervention.
Dr. Ramanuj Narayan, Director of CSIR-IMMT, reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to improving rural life through science, highlighting the benefits of Terafil filters and announcing initiatives in soil analysis, farming practices, and skill development.
Prof. Pradeep Kumar Ramancharla, Director of CSIR-CBRI, emphasized the vision of developing Kusunpur as a model smart village, focusing on livelihoods, infrastructure, and local development.

✨Experts including Dr. Santosh Behera and Mr. Prabhas Chandra Beuria explained the working and maintenance of Terafil filters, while Mr. D.B. Singh conducted a live demonstration. Villagers were educated on the importance of clean water, health risks of contamination, and preventive measures. Information about the Jigyasa Programme and future skill opportunities was also shared.
Community voices, including Shri Birajaprasad Pati of Nature’s Club, stressed the role of science and technology in sustainable rural solutions. The programme was hosted by Dr. Manish Kumar and coordinated by Mr. Bhuvan Sahu and Mr. Jeeban Acharya, with support from Nature’s Club Climate Champions.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Kishor S. Kulkarni, acknowledging the contributions of all stakeholders. Enthusiastic participation came from villagers, local representatives, and leaders including Shri Chittaranjan Pada, Sarpanch, and Mrs. Susmita Swain, Panchayat Member.
