Crops Damaged By Unseasonal Rains A Natural Disaster, Announces CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar, Jan 3: The Odisha Government Friday declared untimely rains that damaged crops as a natural disaster.


The Chief Minister announced this while inaugurating the Krushi Odisha-2025 at the Baramunda Ground in Bhubaneswar. He said lands having lost more than 33 percent of crops would be compensated.


A total of 6,66,700 farmers have suffered losses. All the affected farmers will be compensated. Farmers will be provided two types of compensation for crop losses caused by unseasonal rain. According to the report submitted by the district Collectors till December 30, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Jajpur, Kalahandi, Kendrapara, Khurda, Puri, Rayagada, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Nuapada and Rayagada districts have been affected.

In Ganjam district, 60, 712.61 hectares of farmers have been affected, while 49, 296 hectares of land have been damaged in Puri district. In Nuapada, 12.60 hectares of land have been damaged. A total of 2,26, 791.27 hectares of land have been affected in 16 districts. Everyone will be aided.


The insurance companies will provide assistance to the registered farmers within 15 days. The farmers excluded from the assessment will be included later, said the Chief Minister.
