Bhadrak, Aug 7: At least 12 cows were rescued after a group of cow protection activists intercepted a vehicle allegedly transporting cattle illegally near Randia Bazaar in Bhadrak district and rescued 12 cows.
According to reports, the vehicle was en route from Anandpur to Bhadrak when the activists intercepted the vehicle and demanded verification of transport documents.
The truck, described as a scrap vehicle, was found to be in poor condition and unfit for animal transport. The confrontation led to a heated exchange, prompting the Bhadrak Rural Police to arrive at the scene and initiate an investigation.
This incident came amid heightened scrutiny of cattle trafficking in Odisha.
Bhadrak has emerged as a hotspot for illegal cattle movement, often linked to organised smuggling networks.
No arrests have been reported yet, but police are verifying ownership and transport permits.
