Bhubaneswar, Jan 20: In a significant relief to popular Jatra actor Piyush Tripathy, a local court in Bhubaneswar allowed him to return to the stage, ending weeks of uncertainty over his participation in theatre performances. The decision comes after Tripathy was earlier barred from performing due to a contractual dispute with the producer of Opera Surya Mandir.
According to reports, the producer had approached the court alleging breach of contract by the actor. Following the petition, the court issued a notice to Tripathy and temporarily restricted him from appearing on stage until the matter was heard. This interim restriction had prevented the popular actor from performing in ongoing Jatra shows, disappointing his large fan base.
However, the court today clarified that Tripathy could
resume his performances while the main case continues to be heard. His counsel,
advocate Vibhu Tripathy, said that the actor has been permitted to perform on
the stage once again, though the contractual dispute remains unresolved. “The
case will proceed, but the court has allowed him to perform,” the lawyer said.

The ruling means audiences will once again be able to witness Tripathy’s acting from today, marking his return to the Jatra stage. The development has been welcomed by theatre enthusiasts, as Tripathy is regarded as one of the most prominent faces of Odisha’s traditional theatre art. His performances have consistently drawn large crowds, and his absence had created a void on the cultural circuit.
While the legal proceedings are expected to continue, the court’s interim relief ensures that Tripathy’s artistic journey remains uninterrupted, at least for now.
