Key Points

Majhi asked Health Dept, RMRC to find out reasons of suspected death cases and to bring situation to normalcy soon

He also directed Panchayati Raj Department to provide drinking water facility and build motorable road to manuspadar

Samples of the fifth death had been sent to RMRC for testing and the result came out Saturday to be diphtheria

Bhubaneswar, June 15: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed the State Health Department and Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) to enquire and find out the reasons for suspected cases of deaths in Manuspadar village of Kashipur and to take all possible steps to bring the situation to normal

The Chief Minister has also directed the Panchayati Raj Department to provide drinking water supply and construct a motorable road to the place at the earliest.

Notably, five deaths were reported from Manuspadar village under Kashipur block of Rayagada district over a period of one month. The village is quite remote, which makes the villagers' access to emergency facilities very difficult.

"A designated state team had visited there and had done the necessary investigations, door to door screening and treatment. Health teams are visiting daily and closely monitoring the situation," states a CMO release.

The first four deaths were a result of the villagers' helplessness to reach any health facility or get help from any health worker due to poor road connectivity. The bodies were cremated at community level. But they are suspected to be cases of Diphtheria.

However, for the fifth death, samples had been sent to RMRC for testing and the result came out to be diphtheria.

"A prophylactic dose of antibiotic has been given to all susceptible persons in the community. Symptomatic patients are responding to treatment. The situation is under control," the release says.
