Bhubaneswar, Jan 21: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday inaugurated the Bagchi Karunashraya Palliative Care Centre (BKPCC) in Bhubaneswar.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, State’s Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Mindtree co-founder and former chairman of Odisha Skill Development Authority Subroto Bagchi, his wife Susmita Bagchi and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to Subroto Bagchi and his wife Susmita for establishing a world-class cancer hospital and palliative care unit for the care of cancer patients and alleviating their suffering.

CM Majhi also extend his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all the members and service providers of the BKPCC.

“This institution, which has a 110-bed hospital along with home care and research facilities, is a shining example of humanitarian ideals,” he said.

The BKPCC is a collaborative effort of Bangalore Hospice Trust (BHT) Karunashraya and Bagchi family for which the Bagchi couple has pledged Rs 130 crore.

The centre will provide specialized medical care free of cost to the terminally ill patients with advanced-stage cancer so that patients availing it can get relief from pain and other symptoms of end-stage disease.
