Bhubaneswar, Apr 1: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Tuesday extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of the state's 89th foundation day, or Utkal Divas.

He paid tribute to the great leaders who fought for a separate Odisha, preserving its language, literature, and culture and urged everyone to work towards a prosperous and developed Odisha.

In a post on X, CM Majhi wrote, "Greetings and best wishes to everyone on the occasion of Utkal Divas. A humble tribute to the great men who made immense sacrifices for the formation of a separate Odisha state and enhanced the glory of our language, literature and culture."

"On this day, let us further strengthen our resolve to build a healthy and developed Odisha. #ଓଡ଼ିଶାଦିବସ," the post read.

Odisha Day, also Utkal Divas, is celebrated on April 1 to commemorate the formation of the state as a separate state out of Bihar and Orissa Province with addition of undivided Koraput District and Ganjam District from the Madras Presidency on 1st April 1936. After losing its political identity completely in 1568 following the defeat and demise of the last king Mukunda Dev, efforts resulted in the formation of a politically separate state under British rule on a linguistic basis on 1st April 1936.
