CM Majhi Urges IFS Officers To Promote Odisha’s Cultural Heritage In Europe

Bhubaneswar, Sept 1: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday called upon senior Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officers to actively promote the state’s rich cultural heritage and traditional handicrafts across European nations, officials said.
The Chief Minister’s appeal was made during a high-level interaction at Lok Seva Bhawan with a delegation of IFS officers from the 2000 and 2001 batches.

The delegation included India’s Ambassador to Romania Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Ambassador to Slovenia Shri Amit Narang, and High Commissioner to Malta Mrs. Gloria Gangte. The meeting focused on strengthening Odisha’s global footprint through cultural diplomacy, youth empowerment, and international partnerships.
CM Majhi emphasized the importance of showcasing Odisha’s unique art forms, handloom traditions, and tribal crafts to global audiences. “Odisha’s cultural identity is a source of pride. Promoting it abroad will not only boost our artisans but also deepen India’s cultural ties with Europe,” he said.

The envoys praised Odisha’s rapid development and lauded the success of initiatives like Skilled in Odisha, which has gained international recognition for its vocational training and employment outcomes. They also acknowledged the growing demand for skilled Indian professionals in Europe and highlighted the potential for Odisha’s youth to tap into emerging global opportunities.
The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to empowering youth and artisans, stating that cultural promotion and economic development must go hand in hand. He also referenced the successful hosting of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bhubaneswar earlier this year, which helped reconnect the Odia diaspora with their roots.
Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Saswata Mishra were also present during the meeting.
