Bhubaneswar/New Delhi, Apr 9: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on the third day of his visit to New Delhi, will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday.
The Union Home Minister and CM Majhi will discuss the implementation of new criminal laws in the state. These laws — Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) — usher in a new era, replacing India's colonial-era legislation.
The meeting will examine Odisha's progress in aligning its legal framework with the Centre's directives. The Ministry of Home Affairs has stressed that efficient implementation depends heavily on close coordination between state and central agencies. CM Majhi is expected to present his state's preparedness and early outcomes in adopting these legal reforms.
The newly enacted laws, notified in December 2023 and operational since July 2024, aim to build a justice system that is accessible, technology-driven, and efficient. Over four years, experts studied criminal justice systems from 43 countries to incorporate global best practices.
Union Minister Shah has highlighted that these reforms will make India's legal system one of the most advanced globally. He stressed that provisions have been designed to adapt seamlessly to future technological advancements, ensuring long-term sustainability.
This meeting underscores the Centre’s determination to fast-track the adoption of these laws nationwide to empower citizens and enhance the justice system’s effectiveness.
