CM Majhi Reviews Odisha Bhawan In Delhi Project, Proposes Expansion Across India

Key Points

CM Mohan Majhi reviewed the new Odisha Bhawan construction in Delhi’s Chanakyapuri, emphasizing Odia heritage in design.

CM proposed new Bhawans in Ayodhya, Hyderabad, and Surat to serve pilgrims and Odia diaspora.

Bhubaneswar, Aug 20: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan to assess the progress of the new Odisha Bhawan under construction in New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri area.

The upcoming seven-storey facility in the national capital is envisioned as a cultural and administrative hub for Odias residing in or visiting the national capital. Spanning 4,761 square meters, the G+6 structure will house 45 rooms and suites, along with a modern conference hall.

CM Majhi emphasized that the building’s design must reflect Odisha’s rich heritage, incorporating traditional stone craftsmanship, Sambalpuri Ikat patterns, and Odia cultural motifs. He instructed officials to expedite the construction process to ensure timely completion.

In a broader move to strengthen Odisha’s presence across India, the Chief Minister proposed the construction of new Odisha Bhawans in Ayodhya, Hyderabad, and Surat. These cities were chosen for their religious significance and sizable Odia populations. The Bhawans will serve as support centers for devotees, professionals, and students, offering accommodation and cultural engagement.

He also called for the renovation and modernization of Utkal Bhawan in Kolkata, ensuring it meets contemporary standards while preserving its cultural essence.

Senior officials including Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja and Principal Secretaries from Home, Finance, and Works departments were present during the meeting.

This strategic expansion marks a significant step in Odisha’s outreach, reinforcing its cultural identity and administrative accessibility across key Indian cities.
