Puri, Oct 13: On the occasion of Kartika Habishyali Brata
2025 in Puri, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday made a series
of significant announcements aimed at enhancing the experience and welfare of
Habishyali women pilgrims.
Addressing devotees at Brundabati Nivas, CM Majhi emphasized that the devotion
of Habishyali women represents the moral strength and cultural identity of
Odisha.
Highlighting the spiritual importance of Kartika month, the Chief Minister described it as a time of self-restraint, compassion, and devotion deeply rooted in Odia tradition. He acknowledged the centuries-old practice of Habisha fasting by Odia women and announced the launch of a dedicated digital registration system starting next year. This system will include access to medical and emergency services for registered pilgrims.
CM Majhi also reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming Puri into a world-class spiritual city. As a first step, Puri will be declared a municipal corporation, enhancing its infrastructure and governance.

For the current year, the government has arranged accommodation and food for
approximately 2,500 Habishyali women across five designated locations:
Brundabati Nivas, Bagala Dharmashala, Railway Tourist Complex, Railway Kalyan
Mandap, and Mochisahi Kalyan Mandap. A budget of ₹3.30 crore has been allocated
for these services, marking a Rs70 lakh increase from the previous year.
The Chief Minister assured that volunteers, police, doctors,
and support staff are deployed across all sites to ensure safety and
convenience. He concluded by urging everyone to follow the teachings of Lord
Jagannath and offered his respects to the Habishyali women, engaging with them
personally to understand their needs.
In a heartfelt post on X, the Chief Minister expressed joy after spending time
with the Habishyali mothers, calling them symbols of sacrifice, service, and
devotion. He urged everyone to follow the teachings of Jagannath Dharma and
acknowledged the spiritual strength these women bring to the state.

The event was attended by prominent leaders including MPs Sambit Patra and Bibhuti Prasad Tarai, MLAs Sunil Kumar Mohanty, Upasana Mahapatra, Om Prakash Mishra, and Ashrit Pattnaik, along with District Collector Dibyajyoti Parida.
