Bhubaneswar, Oct 11: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has strongly condemned the alleged gang rape of an Odia medical student in Durgapur, West Bengal, calling the incident “deeply painful and unacceptable.”
In a post on social media platform X, CM Majhi expressed his anguish and demanded swift and exemplary action against the accused.
“This tragic incident is extremely condemnable and heartbreaking. I urge the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee to ensure strict legal action against the culprits. I pray for the speedy recovery of the victim and have directed senior officials to coordinate with the West Bengal government to take necessary steps,” the Odisha Chief Minister wrote.
He assured that the Odisha government will extend all possible support to the victim and her family, including medical assistance and security. CM Majhi has instructed senior officials to visit West Bengal and ensure the victim receives the help she needs.

Meanwhile, the BJP held a press conference condemning the incident and criticized the West Bengal government for its failure to identify or arrest the accused. BJP leaders warned that if immediate action is not taken, they will launch statewide protests.
The party also raised concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in West Bengal, citing recent attacks on MLAs and MPs by TMC workers. They alleged that police have shown little cooperation in the case and accused Mamata Banerjee of lacking sensitivity despite being a woman herself.
West Bengal Governor had also recently criticized the state
government, stating publicly that law and order in the state is in disarray.
