CM Majhi Inaugurates National Handloom Day Celebrations In Bhubaneswar, Extends Greetings To Weavers

Bhubaneswar, Aug 7: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the grand National Handloom Day celebrations at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar today, marking the beginning of a week-long tribute to the state’s rich weaving heritage.

Bollywood icon Madhuri Dixit Nene also graced the inaugural ceremony.

The event brought together over 1,500 weavers from Odisha and eight other states, showcasing the artistry and cultural pride embedded in India’s handloom tradition.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, CM Majhi said: “On the occasion of National Handloom Day, heartfelt greetings and congratulations to all weaver brothers and sisters. I express respect and appreciation for the role of weavers in introducing our art, culture, and traditions to the world through the medium of handloom.”

Highlights of the Celebration
- The Mega Handloom and Handicraft Exhibition will run from August 7 to 13, featuring 60 stalls, a food court, and a play zone.
- Bollywood icon Madhuri Dixit Nene graced the inaugural ceremony and is expected to be named Odisha’s Handloom Ambassador.
- The EKTA (Exhibition-cum-Knowledge Sharing for Textile Advantage) program will be held on August 8 and 9, with seven expert-led sessions and live weaving demonstrations.
- Evening cultural programs from August 7 to 9 will include Odissi and Sambalpuri folk dances, fashion shows, and a laser show.

A tribute to tradition and innovation, the celebrations aim to promote Odisha’s handloom industry, foster knowledge exchange, and honour the artisans who preserve the state’s cultural legacy.
