Bhubaneswar, Nov 20: The two-day state-level Collectors and Superintendents of Police (SPs) Conference has been successfully concluded at the Lok Seva Bhawan Convention Centre, Wednesday.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi addressed the gathering, urging SPs to remain impartial and ensure that genuine offenders are brought to justice without succumbing to external pressures.
On the second day, the Chief Minister outlined eight
priority areas for SPs to focus on. These included devising strategies to
improve conviction rates, considering the establishment of Investigation and
Prosecution wings where necessary, ensuring all complaints at police stations
are registered, conducting regular inspections, and fostering teamwork between
Collectors and SPs.

He emphasized zero tolerance against corruption,
encouraging officers to lead by example, avoid harassment of innocent citizens,
provide training on IPC, CrPC, and Evidence Act, and adopt technology
extensively to stay ahead of criminals.
CM Majhi expressed satisfaction with Odisha Police’s performance, noting that law and order maintenance and crime control remain top priorities for his government. He praised the police for swiftly solving sensitive and critical cases, thereby earning a reputation for efficiency. The government, he added, has taken several steps to strengthen, modernize, and reform policing practices.

Highlighting the importance of citizen-friendly policing, CM Majhi urged officers to treat complainants with respect and ensure that service, safety, and assistance remain the core functions of Odisha Police. He stressed that peace and good governance are essential to realize the vision of a developed Odisha and to attract investors.
The Chief Minister also set ambitious goals, including making Odisha completely free of Naxal influence by 2026, curbing illegal liquor trade, land mafia activities, and financial crimes. He directed SPs to intensify patrolling in accident-prone areas, focus on reckless driving and drunk driving, and strengthen coastal security through coordination with the Coast Guard and Navy to prevent infiltration.
Mohan Charan Majhi concluded by reminding officers that
effective policing is vital not only for law enforcement but also for enabling
infrastructure projects and fostering an environment of peace and prosperity
across the state.
