Bhubaneswar/Keonjhar Dec 28: In a major relief for traditional artists in Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday announced an increase in the monthly allowance under the Mukhyamantri Kalakar Sahayata Yojana.
The announcement was made at the 48th State-level Pala Sammilani held at Park Lane in Keonjhar district. The decision has been welcomed by artists and their families across the state.
As per the revised structure, artists aged between 40 and 80 years will now receive a monthly allowance of Rs 3,000, up from the existing Rs 2,000. For artists aged above 80 years, the monthly assistance has been increased from Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,500.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the allowance hike was a mark of respect for artists who have played a key role in preserving and promoting Odia identity, culture and traditional art forms. He said the government remains committed to safeguarding Odisha’s cultural heritage and ensuring social security for its custodians.
The enhanced allowance under the Mukhyamantri Kalakar Sahayata Yojana is expected to benefit 47,704 artists and their family members across the state.
