Hostel Safety / Class 9 Student Missing from Sambalpur Hostel, Parents Blame Negligence

Sambalpur, Aug 3: A serious incident has emerged from Sambalpur district, where a Class 9 student has gone missing from the hostel of SSD Government High School (PM Shri High School), Shanadpathar under Jamankira police station.

The missing student has been identified as Rohit Munda (15), a resident of Melchhamunda village under Ainthapali police limits in Sambalpur. Rohit had been studying at Shanadpathar school since Class 6 and was residing in the hostel.

According to reports, Rohit went missing on Sunday morning. Despite more than 30 hours passing, no trace of him has been found. School authorities and teachers initially searched possible locations but failed to locate him.

Finally, the school’s assistant superintendent, Achyutananda Pradhan, lodged a written complaint at Jamankira police station. Rohit’s parents also reached the police station after learning about their son’s disappearance and filed a missing report.

Taking the matter seriously, Jamankira police have launched an investigation, visiting the school and surrounding areas. The school authorities handed over Rohit’s confiscated mobile phone to the police, which is now being examined for clues.

Meanwhile, Rohit’s family has accused the school management of negligence, claiming that their carelessness led to the disappearance.

The hostel houses 132 students from Classes 6 to 10, divided into two hostels. Rohit was staying in Hostel 2.

Shockingly, the hostel lacks CCTV surveillance, and the boundary wall is reportedly low, raising questions about security arrangements. Parents and locals have expressed concern over the safety of students in government-run hostels, demanding stricter monitoring and better infrastructure.

As the search continues, the incident has sparked widespread anxiety among parents. Police are intensifying efforts to trace the missing student.
