Jajpur, Jun 15: The cholera outbreak in Jajpur has claimed two more lives, raising the death toll to seven.
The situation remained concerning as health officials work to contain the spread of the disease.
A 14-member central team, including experts from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), World Health Organization (WHO), and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), is set to visit the affected areas today.
Odisha's Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling will also be present to oversee the response efforts.
The team will first visit Badachana Community Health Center, Dharmasala Medical, and Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital before holding a meeting with the district health department and administration.
Health officials have confirmed that eight stool samples tested positive for Vibrio cholerae, the bacteria responsible for cholera.
However, the number of patients has reportedly decreased compared to earlier figures.
To prevent further spread, the Jajpur district administration has banned community feasts and discouraged the consumption of festive cooked rice during the ongoing Raja festival.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, and sanitation efforts have been intensified to ensure safe drinking water for residents.
